Eight things to try in Tasktab

These are the things people find last in Tasktab. Each one takes a few seconds to try.

A task with three tabs, the pointer on its eye

Close the tabs, keep the task

Click the eye on a task to close its tabs. Click it again, and they all come back together.

A task whose tabs include one just opened from another of its tabs

New tabs stay with their task

When one of a task's tabs opens a new tab, the new tab joins that task. You don't have to add it.

A new task being typed, with the tab you're on offered below it

Add the tab you're on

Press the plus next to a column. Tasktab offers the tab you're on, so it joins the new task in one click.

Tasks with a size and a label, and a repeat read from a title being typed

Type a size, a label or a repeat

End a task's title with 2h, #work or every Monday. Tasktab turns it into a size, a label or a repeat.

A task with three subtasks, the first checked off

Split a task into subtasks

Right-click a task and choose Add a subtask. Each subtask gets its own checkbox.

The list on a phone

Take your list with you

Sign in from the menu at the top of the panel. Then open your list on your phone or on another computer.

The command menu open on a task, narrowed to its repeat commands by typing rep

Do anything from the keyboard

Press Ctrl+K (⌘+K on a Mac) to open the command menu. It lists everything you can do to the task you're on, and you type a few letters to find one.

Focus on: every task but the one you're on is folded and faded

Focus on one task

Press Alt+Shift+F. Every task except the one you're on folds and fades in the panel, and their groups collapse in Chrome's tab strip. Press Esc to bring them back.

More questions

How do I move between tasks without opening the panel?

Press Alt+Shift+Down to go to the next task's tabs, and Alt+Shift+Up to go to the previous one. You can also give each of your first nine tasks a shortcut of its own at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Can I turn one of my Chrome tab groups into a task?

Yes. Go to a tab in the group and press the plus next to a column. Tasktab offers the whole group as well as the tab you're on. Your groups never become tasks on their own.

Can I give a tab a shorter name?

Yes. Right-click the tab in the panel and choose Rename. Chrome doesn't let extensions change a tab's title, so the new name shows in Tasktab only.

How do I find a task?

Press / or click Search tasks at the top of the panel. Search finds a task by its title, by its tabs' titles and addresses, and by its subtasks.

Can I move a task to another column?

Yes. Drag it there, or right-click it and choose the column. You can drag tasks up and down to put them in order, too.

Can I add my own columns?

Yes. Choose Columns from the menu at the top of the panel to add, rename or remove columns. Removing a column also removes the tasks in it.

Can I have more than one list?

Yes, once you sign in. Click the name at the top of the panel and choose New list. Each list has its own tasks and columns, and you switch between them from the same menu.

How do I get back a task I deleted?

Press Ctrl+Z (⌘+Z on a Mac) straight away to undo. To get back an older one, choose Deleted tasks from the menu at the top of the panel, then click Restore.

Press ? in the panel to see every keyboard shortcut.
